FAQs

What is your turn around time?

My turn around time is generally between 2 to 3 weeks from the time I receive the item for repair or alteration.

I will also NO LONGER ACCEPT ANY RUSH ITEMS. Not even for an added fee. If you need an item repaired in a rush, please plan accordingly

I’m a specialty alterationist, for non specialty items I recommend your local dry cleaner or any of the wonderful stitchers all over Austin.

How many items can I bring for alteration?

Right now I’m limiting each person to 3 garments/jeans for alteration. I know you all might have been saving up your alterations but if you bring in a big box of items for me to repair, that will leave me with no time to stitch up other peoples pieces.

I will also no longer be accepting work you bring at time of pick up. If you would like to bring more garments in when you come to pick up you will need to schedule a new appointment with me. No exceptions!!!

Why do I need to wash my jeans? What about non denim garments?

You must wash all garments with soap and water before bringing them in. Regular clothing as well as anything denim. When I’m working on your alterations they are in close proximity to my hands and face.

If you bring in your jeans to be repaired or altered, it’s not only extremely unhygienic but it’s very disrespectful to me. Unclean and dirty garments can also affect the overall quality of your repair, as in it may not last.

If you don’t wash your jeans often you may need to wash them a few times to make sure they are clean enough for me to repair. Don’t forget to un-cuff them before washing to get all of the grit out of the cuffs.

Dry cleaning will not work for denim, but will be acceptable for regular garments. I will refuse repair if I don’t deem the garment as clean. This is no slight on you, this is just for my safety.

Can I mail in my alterations?

I do accept mailed in items for repair/alteration. Click this link to inquire. I will give you information on how to measure, if needed, and where to send your items.

Can you repair stretch denim?

I can repair stretch denim, but I cannot do an invisible darning on them. I don’t recommend a machine darning type of repair on stretch denim as this can lead to puckering, wrinkles in the denim and more damage in the end. Even after light wear/wash.

I can do a patch repair and color match as thread and backing as best as I can depending on the color/type of denim and the extent of the damage. This will be something we can talk about at your appointment to go over what options we have. I think hand stitching or sashiko repairs work great for stretch denim.

I will also be offering crochet and knit patches to repair holes in denim. Keep an eye here or on my IG soon for pics of that.

Do you repair heavyweight denim?

Yes! I can repair denim up to 30oz. Anything that is between 18oz - 30oz is considered heavyweight and will come with an added charge for repair/alteration. You can check the price list on this page to get an estimate of what it may cost depending on your repair/alteration. Remember the prices listed are an estimate of cost.

Do you replace zippers?

Yes, on most items. Depending on the item, I may have the zipper in stock, or I may need to order it. I can replace zippers on jeans, slacks, shirts, jackets, pillow cases, etc. I do not replace zippers on any kind of upholstery, or hard shell instrument case. If you’re not sure if it’s something I can fix, click this link to inquire.

Can I inquire about Small Production, Cut/Sew work?

I am not accepting small production work as of this time.

Do you repair upholstery/wedding dresses/pattern making?

No. This type of work requires special machines and knowledge that I’m not currently focusing on. I am currently only focusing on denim and vintage garment restoration. Please do not inquire about any other type of work at this time. Thank you for understanding.
